Job Description

At BlueScope, we create and inspire smart solutions in steel, strengthening our communities and helping build a better future. Our steel has shaped everything from hospitals and schools, bridges and stadiums to fences and homes – influencing the way we live and work, now and in the future.

The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as a Materials Engineering Cadet. Working in highly skilled teams, and under the guidance of experienced engineers and technical specialists, you will rotate through various departments gaining invaluable exposure to the steel making process. The skills that you practise will provide a solid foundation towards understanding the engineering profession and furthering your engineering career.

Our Cadetship program at BlueScope creates an opportunity for you to gain world class experience and paid on the job training while simultaneously completing your degree. Cadetships provide a combination of part-time study and part-time work, where you will attend university classes one day a week. Our Cadetships will commence in January 2022.

What Will You Do?

  • in a lab environment, testing the quality and chemistry composition of the steel we manufacture
  • working within operations teams to manage the flow of work to ensure we meet the production schedule
  • working in a department or processing line to ensure our quality standards are maintained and are updated to ensure we exceed our customers’ expectations
  • in a technical role solving production or quality problems, improving the efficiency of the process

More About You

Enthusiastic to kick start your career, you will have a keen interest to grow and develop yourself as an engineer, as well as a commitment to the safety of yourself and others.

You will be comfortable working within a team environment, share ideas and actively collaborate and contribute to your team’s success.

  • You will currently be in your first or second year of study in Materials Engineering at UOW; OR
