The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for three Dispute Resolution Managers (DRM) to join our high-performing Dispute Resolution team providing interpersonal conflict resolution expertise in the Department of Defence.

As a DRM in Defence, you will work alongside highly skilled and professional Dispute Resolution Managers within a national team.

Empowered to lead dispute resolution services across your region, you will ensure the provision of timely, specialist advice and guidance on workplace behaviour, conflict resolution and unacceptable behaviour management. Our services include, but are not limited to, subject matter expertise advisory, mediations, facilitated conversations, conflict coaching and targeted workshop facilitation to embed sustainable learning outcomes.

To achieve this, you will lead and manage a panel of ADR practitioners (nationally accredited mediators and conflict management coaches) and oversee the local Workplace Behaviour Adviser (WBA) network. This network consists of trained volunteers who provide Defence people with advice and guidance on unacceptable behaviour matters.

Success in this role will be characterised by your ability to:

  • Connect with Defence’s mission and purpose
  • Understand how your role as a DRM supports Defence’s workforce;
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships as a trusted and credible practitioner by promptly and appropriately responding to the needs of customers and stakeholders;
  • Communicate effectively with both military members and Australian Public Service employees to get to the heart of the issue and design appropriate intervention strategies;
  • Coach, mentor and develop your ADR practitioner panel and WBA network coordinators;
  • Effectively engage across Defence’s HR Group to connect key stakeholders and subject matter experts to provide a seamless, high-quality service to our customers;
  • Draw upon a broad range of experience and training in interpersonal and workplace conflict situations, or be to acquire these skills; and
  • Take every opportunity to strengthen and build upon your professional expertise through a focused development and training plan.
