Griffith Base Hospital is an 120 bed acute care hospital with Intensive care and ciritical care services, perioperative services, maternity and womens health, Paediatric services and Emergency care. The current Paediatric Unit is a Level 3 role delineation service offering a 10 bed ward with 14 bed spaces. Our core business is the management of acute medical and surgical admission for patients neonate to 18 years. Day surgery includes ENT, Dental and a monthly list by a visiting paediatric surgeon. Day only admission procedures include iron and immunoglobulin infusions, blood transfusions, specific pathology investigations or collection, diagnostic lumbar punctures and imaging requiring sedation. Overnight admission is also organised to conduct modified sleep studies and oxygen saturation monitoring. An ambulatory care service has been established to include a medical led review service hence minimising the length of stay when safe by referring to ambulatory care services. We also promote post-surgical follow up in the Paediatric wound clinic where we also manage burns in consultation with the NSW Burns Service.
