About us

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions. About the team

The Safety, Environment and Regulation (SER) division leads policy, strategy, standards, advice and support across safety, environment, sustainability, asset management and regulatory outcomes for customers, community and our people (including contractors). SER provides ‘centres of excellence’ with a critical mass of expertise to support line accountability, facilitate consistency and provide assurance across transport. It also delivers a range of regulatory programs.

The opportunity

The Environment & Sustainability branch within SER is accountable for Environment & Sustainability policy, practice and support to programs, projects and operations. Reporting to the Senior Specialist (Land, Water & Contamination), you’ll provide technical support to our development, delivery and operational teams related to:

• The acquisition, sale and ongoing management of contaminated land
• Groundwater impact assessment, licensing and approvals
• Construction water quality techniques and assessments
• Operational water quality impact assessment, modelling and control design
• Management of acid sulfate soils

You will be involved in developing, updating and reviewing procedures, guidelines, templates and provide guidance to project and property teams. Supporting technical advice on Land, Water & Contamination to major project development, assessment and approval through to advising on liabilities & strategic approaches for management of contaminated land.
In this role you’ll work with multi-disciplinary teams in the early identification of environmental risks and issues using best practice to minimise risks across TfNSW. This role involves supporting reviews of comprehensive plans, reports and environmental assessment documentation whilst undertaking research and developing specialist reports.

About you

You’ll have proven experience in applying knowledge of Environmental legislation and regulations and can demonstrate working with key internal and external stakeholders such as regulators, industry partners and internal teams including legal branch, property and land use teams and, client and delivery teams..
Armed with a relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental engineering or related discipline. You will have strong problem solving skills, are experienced at managing a variety of stakeholders and have the ability to prioritise your work under pressure.

Salary and Benefits
