The Location

The Opportunity
We seek an experienced and passionate Events & Functions Manager to manage both race day and non-race day events and functions. Working closely with the CEO and other senior managers, you will contribute to the organisation’s events and functions sales revenue and be involved in the development and implementation of their community engagement strategy.

You will liaise with clients, members, guests, contractors, and suppliers to organise and oversee operations across seven stunning function spaces to ensure a high value service is delivered to the Club’s guests.

You will have previous experience in looking after the following activities:

  • Leading and developing key catering staff;
  • Assisting with staff schedules and management of a casual staff base;
  • Coordinating, implementing and following-up event and function enquiries and bookings;
  • Developing and monitoring the catering and event department’s budget and expenditure;
  • Providing departmental reports to the Board;
  • Planning and taking part in promotional events;
  • Setting and enforcing quality and safety controls, policies and procedures;
  • Attending local networking events and building business relationships.

To be successful in this busy hands-on role, you will need to have the following:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar role at a senior/management level;
  • Experience developing and monitoring budgets;
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills with the ability to handle pressure and juggle several functions at once;
  • Great people skills and a track record of building relationships and business development;
  • Experience leading and developing a team;
  • A positive and friendly outlook with the ability to adapt and engage with diverse personalities;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • A self-starter who can think on your feet and solve problems as they arise;
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Intermediate to advanced level of MS Word & Excel;
  • Willingness to work during peak hours, including nights, weekends and holidays;
  • A strong team person who jumps in and gets things done; and
  • Ability to walk, stand and carry heavy items when required.
