Information Security Officer

About the Role

We are currently looking for an Information Security Officer to join our Infrastructure Security Team in Sydney. This is a great opportunity to join a growing team and contribute to the success of Cyber Security NSW. This role will be focussed in two areas. First, developing and managing the ISMS for Cyber Security NSW. Second, providing technical implementation advice to NSW Government agencies and local councils on implementing and improving their own ISMS.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Develop, implement, and manage the Cyber Security NSW ISMS
  • Develop and maintain positive stakeholder relationships with NSW Government agencies and local councils to provide advice on implementing and improving individual ISMS.
  • Coordinate scheduled and targeted activities with appropriate stakeholders
  • Use and manage systems to track projects and programs
  • Produce timely and actionable reporting for stakeholders
  • Keep an up to date understanding of Information Security methodologies and practices
  • Participate in projects across the broader team as required

About you

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • 3+ years managing an ISMS
  • Knowledge of different methodologies for implementing an ISMS; including ISO 27001, ISM and NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of policies, plans and procedures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the standards and policies which govern the security of NSW Government ICT systems, i.e. the NSW Cyber Security Policy and NSW Government Information Classification, Labelling and Handling Guidelines.
  • Sound understanding of ISO 31000, and experience performing risk assessments and managing a risk register.
  • Experience implementing a new ISMS (desirable, not mandatory)
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to proactively manage your own workload and tasks and work flexibly in response to project and other requirements
  • Have the ability to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance and willingness to undergo a police check

Cyber Security NSW is a whole-of-government function located within Digital.NSW in the Department of Customer Service. We are responsible for ensuring a cyber safe NSW. The protection of our systems and digital information is important because of the many essential services NSW Government provides including health, emergency services, and transport. Furthermore, the exciting digital transformation being undertaken across NSW Government requires similarly enhanced cyber security capabilities.

At the centre of this exciting and growing cyber capability, Cyber Security NSW is working across NSW Government to:

  • Create a whole-of-government integrated approach to managing cyber risk and responding to cyber security threats
  • Increase cyber skills and awareness
  • Understand the risks from cyber threats to our digital information and systems
  • Set cyber security standards
  • Ensure we are prepared if a damaging cyber incident occurs
