Permanent part-time opportunity available for a Registered Nurse (Eligibility for CNS Grade 1 Status) to join the Substance Use in Pregnancy and Parenting Service based at The James Fletcher Hospital campus in the heart of Newcastle.

The Substance Use in Pregnancy and Parenting Service (SUPPS) is small team that comprises of a Clinical Midwife Consultant and three Social Workers along with this Registered Nurse Position. The service is comprised of three streams - providing antenatal support to women who are birthing at John Hunter Hospital in the form of antenatal clinics and brief intervention, an intensive stream which provides home visiting services within the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Local Government Areas and a consult stream to the district to support other service providers when working with women who are pregnant and to parents with a child under the age of two who have a drug and/or alcohol issue. The team provides services Monday to Friday 8am to 4:30pm and is based on the campus of James Fletcher Hospital with work from other sites including John Hunter hospital being required.

You will be supported in this position through access to clinical supervision as required and the opportunity to attend relevant education and training to support your professional development. The Clinical Midwife Consultant, Service Manager and Addiction Specialists will also provide support and an a period of orientation will be provided to ensure your success in this role.

The successful applicant will have the ability to provide consultation to other service providers regarding issues that women who are in the antenatal period with experience working with clients who have alcohol and/or other drug issues being highly regarded. You will also have a clear understanding of child protection issues with the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Your ability to manage a large workload and organise and prioritise competing demands will be the key to your success in this position.

This position is graded as a Registered Nurse with eligibility for Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 1 status. Candidates requesting to be remunerated at CNS Grade 1 must provide evidence that they meet the award requirements for personal grading of CNS Grade 1.

An eligibility list will be created for future permanent part time and temporary part time vacancies.
