The Division

The Greater Sydney Division is redefining integrated transport choices to improve the lives of customers and communities, making Greater Sydney a better place to live, work and play. We have the single biggest place making opportunity at Transport in the coming years, reshaping Greater Sydney into a metropolis of three cities – Eastern Harbour City, Central River City and Western Parklands City - whilst also overseeing the Greater Sydney region as a whole.

The opportunity

The Senior Network Operations Officer – Sydney is responsible for developing, evaluating and implementing road network strategies using SCATS, traffic signal operations and modelling analysis to support road network performance and road safety outcomes.

Your key accountabilities are:

  • Identify and implement traffic signal operations to improve the performance of the road network by optimising road corridors to achieve network efficiency.
  • Review and provide specialist advice for traffic signal design plans on road networks prepared and submitted by RMS staff, private developers and Local Councils to ensure they meet operational requirement.
  • Identify critical issues and apply specialist knowledge to design and develop innovative solutions to improve network performance.
  • Analyse traffic information and undertake modelling and onsite inspections.
  • Prepare a range of technical documentation for traffic signal modification and reconstructions.
  • Implement new and complex operating parameters and standards for traffic signals and SCATS operations.
  • Support TMC operations and Regional Traffic Operations by assisting with event and incident management, planning and operations.
  • Identify critical issues and apply specialist knowledge to design and develop innovative solutions to improve network performance.
  • Supervise the collection of data for assessment by conducting audits of traffic signal and SCATS operation whilst leading Network Operations Officers in undertaking traffic signal and network analysis using traffic modelling software.
  • Manage all technical services for projects to ensure the delivery of traffic projects within agreed scope.
  • Identify and implement new and complex operating parameters and standards for traffic signals and SCATS operations to enhance efficiency and road safety across the network.

About you

You will hold the following skills and qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in related discipline (Civil or Electrical Engineering), and/or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in traffic management and the operation of the road network including technical policies, standards and guidelines and traffic design principles including specialised software design tools and their application.
  • Demonstrated experience in SCATS operations and in the optimising techniques used by SCATS.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is a Grade 7 ($92,928 - $ 98,074) per annum, plus superannuation and leave loading.
