About us

At Sydney Trains our vision is to keep Sydney moving by putting the customer at the centre of everything we do. We work at the heart of local communities and integrate cutting edge technology to deliver efficient rail services which exceed expectations and support a rapidly growing economy. Sydney Trains also operate the Rail Operations Centre and are responsible for the maintenance of assets including tracks, trains, signals, overhead wiring, stations and facilities. We conduct our operations in the community in compliance with the principles of ecologically sustainable development.

The Opportunity

Sydney Trains is looking for enthusiastic, motivated and safety focused people to join our team as Trainee Train Guards. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the team that serves over 1.3 million customers per day, keeping Sydney connected with work, school, vital services and loved ones.

As a Train Guard, you’ll be making a valued contribution to your community while getting hands on with innovative ways of working and cutting edge technologies.

Training Program

Successful applicants will undertake an intensive 6 month training program where you will develop the broad range of skills required of a Train Guard. This will be a combination of classroom and on-the-job training.

There is a lot to learn so we are looking for bright sparks who will soak up large amounts of information like safety procedures, network maps and contingency plans and apply them under high pressure conditions.

Please be aware that our training program runs to a tight schedule that includes evenings and weekends.

About you

You proudly identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. You are an energetic and determined individual who enjoys delivering exceptional customer experiences in a constantly changing environment where no two days are ever quite the same. You approach challenging situations with a level head and appositive attitude.

“Every day is different and it’s also very sociable. As well as meeting customers there are around 2,500 train crew members and there’s a real sense that we’re all in this together helping Sydneysiders get around our great city.”
