About the program

Supporting the Youth Employment Program (YEP) initiative, DoT and Working for Victoria are opening doors for young people across the Victoria Public Service (VPS), with the aim of supporting unemployed Victorians get back too and into work.

Youth Employment Program was created in response to the coronavirus (COVID—19) pandemic and will provide these opportunities for young people between 17 and 29 to kickstart their careers and develop skills for the future in the VPS.

To apply you must be:

  • Be unemployed or under-employed (working less than 12 hours per week on average).
  • Be eligible to be employed by the Victorian Government (i.e., you must have the right to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment).
  • Be aged between 17 and 29 years at the time of their application
  • Must be able and willing to travel and work across metropolitan and regional Victoria and outside normal working hours, as reasonably required.
  • Have a valid Driver’s License.

About the position:

The main responsibility of a Youth Employment Program (YEP) Participant is to undertake a variety of duties to support the Department of Transport to provide simple, connected journeys for all Victorians.

This role will based in Ballarat and will perform a variety of duties as a Road Worker.

Role functions can include:

  • Perform a variety of road and bridge routine inspection, maintenance, and construction activities as a cooperative and effective team member.
  • Perform maintenance and construction tasks as well as respond to emergencies under general supervision, while ensuring quality, environmental and safety practices are always observed and adhered to.
  • Communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Learn on the job and develop the skills required to perform the role
